Ideogram: plans, prices, strengths and limits

Ideogram is an image generator with documented workflows for putting text in images and making logos, plus editing, upscaling and a video app. Its Terms allow commercial use on every plan, but everything made on Free is public.

Quick verdict

Ideogram runs on credits. Free gives 30 credits a week to accounts signed in with Google, Apple or Microsoft (email and password accounts get none), and Ideogram's pricing FAQ says the weekly amount may vary. Plus is $20 a month, or $15 a month billed yearly, $180 paid up front, with 2,400 priority credits a month. Pro is $60 a month, or $42 a month billed yearly, $504 paid up front, with 7,500. Prices are before tax. On Plus and Pro, unused credits expire each cycle, but you can keep generating with Ideogram models in a slow queue after they run out; Free has no slow queue, so you wait for next week or buy credits at 1 cent each. How many credits each image or video costs depends on the model, quality and size, and we could not record the per-model rates.

Ideogram's Terms are the same on every plan: Ideogram claims no ownership of your inputs or outputs, says it does not restrict "your ability to use User Output for your own purposes (including for commercial purposes)", and assigns to you any rights it acquires in your output. It also disclaims liability for commercial use. The catch on Free is privacy: everything generated on the free plan is public, and other users may remix it. Plus and Pro add private generation.

Ideogram documents a workflow for text inside images, where you put the exact words in quotation marks, and a Make a Logo workflow that downloads a PNG. It lists limits for long passages and for non-English or non-Latin text, and vector output is not verified. This verdict rests on what Ideogram documents, not on our tests, which we have not run yet.

Strengths and limits

Strengths

  • Commercial use on every planThe same Terms cover Free, Plus and Pro: Ideogram claims no ownership of what you make, does not restrict commercial use, and assigns to you any rights it acquires in your output.
  • Documented text and logo workflowsIdeogram says it can put text almost anywhere in an image when the exact words are in quotation marks, and Studio offers editable text layers. Its Make a Logo workflow uses Ideogram 4.0 Transparent or 4.5 with a transparent background; a 1K PNG download is free on every plan.
  • Keep generating after credits run outPlus and Pro include unlimited slow-queue generations with Ideogram models once priority credits are used. Custom and partner models, reference images, edits and upscales still need credits.
  • Editing, background removal and upscalingYou can edit uploaded photos as well as generated images. The Background Remover returns a transparent PNG. On paid plans, Precise Edit masks one area, and the Upscale app enlarges 2x, 4x or 8x, up to the equivalent of 8192 x 8192, with a choice of upscalers including Topaz.
  • Video from a text prompt on paid plansThe Video app on Plus and Pro makes short clips from a text prompt alone, from start and end frames, or from reference images, video and audio. Videos are private by default; the credit cost depends on model, duration and resolution.

Limits

  • Free images are publicPrivacy limit. Everything generated on the free plan is public, and other users may remix it. Private generation starts with Plus.
  • Free is small and sign-in dependentPlan limit. Free gives 30 credits a week, only to accounts signed in with Google, Apple or Microsoft, and the pricing FAQ says the amount may vary. Free has no slow queue, and Video, Upscale and Precise Edit need a paid plan or bought credits.
  • Credit costs not published in textNot verified. Ideogram's pricing page loads per-model credit costs only in the browser, so we could not record how many credits an image or video uses. Plus and Pro credits expire each cycle.
  • No vector files verifiedNot verified. Logos download as raster PNG, and Ideogram's docs say writing "vector" in a prompt does not create vector paths. The FAQ mentions an SVG download only if an app creates an SVG asset, and no current app is listed as doing so.
  • No training opt-out foundNot verified. The Privacy Policy, last revised January 15, 2025, lists training the models among its uses of information, and the Account settings docs describe no training control.

  • Logo images with a transparent background, downloaded as PNG
  • Commercial projects on any plan, under the same Terms

What it documents for each use

  • Images & Design Create images from a description · Make graphics for posts and slides · Edit my own photos · Remove a background · Make images with exact text · Design a logo
  • Video & Animation Make short videos from a description · Turn a photo into a video

A use is listed when at least one plan documents every feature a task needs. Answer quality is a separate question: see below.

Using it day to day

Ideogram works in the web app, an iOS app and through an API with credit-based keys; we found no Android app, and purchases are not available inside the iOS app. An Ideogram MCP server lets AI assistants that support MCP make images with your account. We found no integrations with storage or design apps such as Drive, Dropbox or Figma. The pricing page lists API access for Plus and Pro; whether Free includes it is not stated.

Plus allows 8 running plus queued generations and Pro 32; Pro also adds Batch Generation and limited custom model training. Reference images can be JPEG, PNG or WebP up to 25 MB, and the Video app also takes video and audio references. Only media uploads are documented, not PDF, Word or slide files. Larger logo and upscale download sizes need a paid plan. Extra credits cost 1 cent each on any plan.

Privacy, data and ads

On Free, everything you generate is public and other users may remix it; Plus and Pro add private generation, and videos are private by default. Ideogram's Privacy Policy lists training the models among its uses of information, and we found no setting to opt out. You can select items in your Library or a collection and download a ZIP that includes a CSV of prompts and settings; images come as PNG if you subscribe and JPEG if you don't. The Privacy Policy lists a right of portability. Whether Ideogram shows ads is not verified.

Test results

We have not tested Ideogram yet, so this page makes no claim about answer quality, and we show no example outputs. Run the same kit in it and in the alternatives, in your own account:

Getting started

  1. Sign in with Google, Apple or Microsoft to get the 30 free weekly credits; an email and password account gets none.
  2. Use Free only for images you are happy to make public, since free-plan images are public and can be remixed.
  3. Put the exact words you want in the image in quotation marks, and keep them short.
  4. For private work, the slow queue, video or upscaling, choose Plus at $20 a month, or $180 a year paid up front.
  5. Compare Ideogram with other image tools on our tools page, and read how we check vendor claims.

Questions

Is Ideogram free?

Yes. Ideogram Free gives 30 credits a week to accounts signed in with Google, Apple or Microsoft; email and password accounts get none. The pricing FAQ says the weekly amount may vary, and when the credits run out you wait for next week or buy more at 1 cent each.

Are images I make on Ideogram Free public?

Yes. Everything generated on the free plan is public, and other users may remix it. Plus and Pro add private generation.

Can I use Ideogram images commercially?

Ideogram's Terms, the same on every plan, say it claims no ownership of your outputs and does not restrict your ability to use them for your own purposes, including commercial ones. Ideogram also disclaims liability for commercial use.

How much do Ideogram Plus and Pro cost?

Plus is $20 a month, or $15 a month billed yearly, $180 paid up front, with 2,400 priority credits a month. Pro is $60 a month, or $42 a month billed yearly, $504 paid up front, with 7,500. Tax is added at checkout.

Can Ideogram make vector logos?

Not verified. The Make a Logo workflow downloads a PNG, and Ideogram's docs say writing "vector" in a prompt does not create vector paths. No current app is listed as making SVG files.
