Adobe Firefly: plans, prices, strengths and limits

Adobe Firefly generates and edits images, video and audio on the web and in mobile apps, using Adobe's own models and partner models. Adobe says it does not train its generative AI on your content, and its Terms leave you the owner of what you make.

Quick verdict

Firefly splits its features into standard and premium. On every paid plan, standard features are unlimited: Firefly Image 4 and 3 generations, Generative Fill, Erase and Expand, Remove Background, Upscale and Text to Vector Graphics. Premium features, such as video, audio, Firefly Image 5 and partner models like Nano Banana Pro, use monthly generative credits. Standard is $9.99 a month with 2,000 credits and covers Firefly only. Pro is $19.99 with 4,000 credits and adds Adobe Express Premium and Photoshop on web and mobile. Pro Plus is $49.99 with 10,000, and Premium is $199.99 with 50,000 plus unlimited use of the Firefly Video Model. Adobe's US plans page shows only monthly billing for these plans and does not say whether tax is included, so treat the prices as not verified for tax. You can also use Firefly without a plan: a free Adobe account gets a limited number of free daily generations on a curated set of models.

On commercial use, Adobe's General Terms say you "retain all rights and ownership of your Content", and its help pages say outputs from Firefly features without the beta label may be used in commercial projects. For partner model outputs, Adobe leaves it to you to judge whether they suit your use. Adobe's IP indemnity applies only to teams and enterprise plans, not to any individual Firefly plan, including Premium.

Adobe also says it does not analyze your content to train generative AI models, unless you submit it to Adobe Stock. This verdict rests on what Adobe documents, not on our tests, which we have not run yet.

Strengths and limits

Strengths

  • Unlimited standard features on paid plansEvery paid plan includes unlimited standard generations with Firefly Image 4 and 3, plus unlimited Generative Fill, Erase, Expand, Remove Background, 2x or 4x Upscale and Text to Vector Graphics. Credits are only for premium features.
  • No training on your contentAdobe says it does not analyze your content to train generative AI models, unless you submit content to Adobe Stock. Personal accounts can also turn off "Content analysis for product improvement" at account.adobe.com/privacy.
  • Free use without a planA free Adobe account gets free daily generations across image, video and audio on a curated set of models, such as Nano Banana and Luma Ray3.14, plus a free background remover for JPG and PNG images and 2x or 4x Generative Upscale.
  • Adobe's own and partner models in one placeFirefly Image 5 costs 10 credits, Image 4 Ultra 20 and Nano Banana Pro 40. Pro also lists partner video models from Veo, Kling, Runway and Luma, which use credits. Partner models require you to be 18 or older.
  • Photoshop and Express from ProPro, Pro Plus and Premium include Adobe Express Premium, whose logo maker builds logos from a brand name and industry, and Photoshop on web and mobile. Credits also work in Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Lightroom and Adobe Express.

Limits

  • No IP indemnity for individualsPlan limit. Adobe's IP indemnity covers only teams and enterprise Eligible Plans. None of the individual Firefly plans, including Premium at $199.99 a month, includes it, and for partner model outputs Adobe leaves suitability to you.
  • Video is counted in creditsPlan limit. Firefly Video costs 100 credits a second at 1080p, 50 at 720p and 20 at 540p. The plans page puts that at up to 20 five-second videos a month on Standard, 40 on Pro and 100 on Pro Plus. Only Premium lists unlimited Firefly Video Model use, queued after credits run out.
  • Tax and yearly billing not verifiedNot verified. Adobe's US plans page shows no tax label and only monthly billing for individual Firefly plans; its General Terms say you pay applicable taxes. We could not check whether a yearly option exists.
  • Text and vector details unclearNot verified. Adobe documents text rendering only for a partner model, GPT Image 2 by OpenAI, which uses credits. No page we read states the file format of Text to Vector downloads, so SVG is not confirmed, and Text to Vector on the free tier is not confirmed.
  • No logo tool on Free or StandardNot verified. Firefly itself has no logo maker or logo mode that we found. Adobe's logo maker is in Adobe Express, and Express Premium comes only with Pro and higher.

Based on what Adobe Inc. documents for each plan, not on our tests.

What it documents for each use

  • Images & Design Create images from a description · Make graphics for posts and slides · Edit my own photos · Remove a background · Make images with exact text · Design a logo
  • Video & Animation Make short videos from a description · Turn a photo into a video
  • Business & Productivity Connect AI to the apps I already use

A use is listed when at least one plan documents every feature a task needs. Answer quality is a separate question: see below.

Using it day to day

Firefly runs on the web at firefly.adobe.com in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Mac and Windows, and in iOS and Android apps. Adobe connectors let you use Adobe tools from ChatGPT, Claude, Google Gemini and Slack, though Adobe does not state Firefly-specific connector features by plan. The Firefly API is not sold to individuals.

Generate Video makes clips of about five seconds as MP4, from text or from an uploaded first frame with an optional last frame. Firefly accepts image uploads for references, keyframes and editing, and video and audio for Translate; whether it accepts PDF, Word or slide documents is not verified. Paid plans offer a free trial on the plans page, except Premium, which shows no trial button. Standard's credits reset monthly, with no rollover. Adobe's plans FAQ aims Premium at teams and businesses, but it is sold on the Individuals tab.

Privacy, data and ads

Adobe says it does not analyze your content to train generative AI models, unless you choose to submit content to the Adobe Stock marketplace. Personal accounts can also turn off "Content analysis for product improvement" at account.adobe.com/privacy. You can download what you generate, and Adobe's Terms tell you to download content stored in its services before your license ends, with a 30-day transition afterwards. Whether Firefly shows ads is not verified.

Test results

We have not tested Adobe Firefly yet, so this page makes no claim about answer quality, and we show no example outputs. Run the same kit in it and in the alternatives, in your own account:

Getting started

  1. Start without a plan: sign in with a free Adobe account and use the free daily generations to try images, the background remover and upscaling.
  2. If you want privacy beyond Adobe's no-training statement, turn off "Content analysis for product improvement" at account.adobe.com/privacy.
  3. For unlimited standard image features, choose Standard at $9.99 a month. Choose Pro at $19.99 if you also want Photoshop on web and mobile and Adobe Express Premium.
  4. Before relying on video, count the credits: at 1080p, a five-second Firefly video costs 500 credits by our calculation.
  5. Compare Firefly with other image tools on our tools page, and read how we check vendor claims.

Alternatives

  • Canva Canva Pro, at $18 a month or $144 a year before tax, adds SVG downloads, a Background Remover that does not use the AI allowance, and Canva Code for interactive designs. About Canva

  • Midjourney Midjourney Standard, at $30 a month before tax, gives unlimited Relax Mode images and an Editor with inpainting, though it has no free plan and no training opt-out we could find. About Midjourney
