About
Technology, explained without the jargon
What the tech is a publication for curious people. We cover the products, platforms and ideas that are changing how we work and live, and we explain why they matter in plain English.
What we cover
Technology moves fast, and most of the coverage it gets is written for people who already know the vocabulary. We start from the other end: what changed, who it affects, and what you can do with it.
Artificial intelligence
The models, the companies building them and what they actually do well, beyond the launch-day demos.
Gadgets
Phones, laptops, wearables and the smart home: what is new, what is worth it and what to skip.
Software and the web
Apps, cloud services and the tools people use every day, including the ones developers depend on.
Security and privacy
Breaches, scams and the settings that matter, explained so you can act on them.
The business of tech
Startups, funding, big-tech strategy and the deals that decide which products reach you.
How-to guides
Step-by-step help for getting more out of the technology you already own.
How we write
Every story should leave you knowing more than when you started. That means short sentences where they help, examples instead of buzzwords, and a clear answer to the question in the headline.
We link to the original sources we rely on, so you can check our work. When a story changes after it is published, the date it was updated appears beside the original publication date.
Who writes for us
Each story carries the name of the people who wrote it. Their author pages collect everything they have published here, along with a short biography and the places you can follow them.
