Privacy policy

What we collect when you read, subscribe or write to us, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

When you read

You can read every story without an account. Like most websites, our server records technical information about each request, such as your IP address, browser type and the page you asked for, to keep the site running and secure.

Your choice of light or dark appearance is remembered in your own browser’s storage. It never leaves your device.

When you subscribe

If you sign up for the newsletter, we store the e-mail address you give us so we can send it. Every newsletter includes a way to unsubscribe, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time.

When you contact us

Messages sent through our contact or advertising forms are stored so we can reply, together with the name, e-mail address and any file you choose to attach. We use them only to answer you and to follow up on what you asked.

Cookies

The site uses the cookies it needs to work, for example to protect our forms from abuse. If we add analytics or advertising tools that use cookies, they will be described on this page.

Embedded content and links

Some stories include videos, posts or other content embedded from other services. That content behaves as if you visited the other service, which may collect data about you under its own policy. Share buttons are plain links: nothing is sent to a social network until you click one.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it or ask us to delete it. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under data protection law.

To make a request, write to hello@whatthetech.net or use our contact form.

Changes to this policy

If the way we handle information changes, we will update this page.
