Wispr Flow: plans, prices, strengths and limits
Wispr Flow is a dictation app that types what you say into any app, with a Notetaker that records meetings on your computer. It suits people who write a lot and would rather speak than type.

Quick verdict
Wispr Flow documents dictation into any app in more than 100 languages, on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. Flow Free counts dictated words per week: 2,000 on Mac and Windows and 1,000 on iPhone and Android, reset every Sunday at 12 a.m. Pacific time. Flow Pro is $15 a month, or $144 a year paid up front ($12 a month), billed per user, with unlimited dictation and Command Mode, which edits selected text, drafts replies or runs a search by voice on Mac and Windows. On ownership, Wispr's terms are clear: "you retain all ownership rights in Input and you own all Output", such as transcripts and summaries, with no plan restriction stated.
The principal limitations are what Flow does not do. It needs an internet connection, and it cannot transcribe an existing audio or video file on any plan or platform. Sharing your data to improve the model is on by default, and you have to turn it off. Notetaker, the meeting recorder, is documented inconsistently: Wispr's pages disagree on which platforms it runs on, and Pro's meeting limit is not published.
This verdict rests on what Wispr documents, not on our tests, which we have not run.
Strengths and limits
Strengths
- Dictation into any appFlow types what you say into any app in more than 100 languages: on Mac (macOS 12 or later), Windows 10 and 11 (x64), iPhone (iOS 18.3 or later, as a keyboard) and Android 13 or later (as a floating bubble).
- You own what it writesWispr's terms say you keep ownership of your Input and own all Output, such as transcripts and summaries, and that Wispr assigns you any rights it has in Output. Wispr gets a license only to provide, improve and protect the service. No plan restriction is stated.
- Meeting notes without a botNotetaker records meetings from your microphone and system audio, so no bot joins the call. It adds speaker labels, summaries and Ask Wispr questions. Wispr's pricing FAQ says the free plan includes Notetaker, with a weekly limit.
- Command Mode on ProOn Pro, Command Mode on Mac and Windows edits selected text, drafts replies or runs a search by voice. It is off by default and not offered on Free.
- Calendar, Slack and AI toolsGoogle Calendar, Outlook Calendar and Slack connect in Settings on Mac and Windows, for meeting reminders and context in summaries; the plans article lists them on Free. A remote MCP server makes your meeting notes available to Claude, ChatGPT and other AI tools.
Limits
- A weekly word cap on FreePlan limit: the pricing page lists 2,000 words a week on Mac and Windows and 1,000 on iPhone and Android. Wispr's plans article adds detail: a desktop maximum of 5,000 words, and on mobile a slowdown or warning at 1,000 and a block at 1,500.
- No file transcriptionDocumented as not offered: you cannot upload an existing audio or video file for transcription on any plan or platform. On Mac and Windows, Notetaker can import Otter or Granola transcript exports as text or CSV; any audio in them is ignored.
- Needs an internet connectionWispr documents that an internet connection is required for transcription, so Flow does not work offline.
- Training is on by defaultThe setting "Improve the model for everyone" starts on, and feedback you submit can still be used for training after you turn it off. Older versions called the switch "Privacy Mode", with the opposite meaning.
- Notetaker details disagreeConflict: the pricing page says Notetaker is for Mac and Windows only for now, the plans article says Mac, Windows and iOS, and the Notetaker help articles say Mac and Windows. Pro's meeting limit is published only as "Higher limits".

What it documents for each use
- Business & Productivity Connect AI to the apps I already use · Get notes from my meetings
- Audio & Voice Dictate text into any app
A use is listed when at least one plan documents every feature a task needs. Answer quality is a separate question: see below.
Using it day to day
Dictation works on Mac (macOS 12 or later), Windows 10 and 11 (x64), iPhone with iOS 18.3 or later as a keyboard, and Android 13 or later as a floating bubble. Wispr lists iPad, Linux, Chromebooks, virtual machines and remote desktop environments as not supported, and there is no web dictation app. Notetaker runs on Mac and Windows according to the pricing page and the Notetaker help articles, while the plans article also names iOS, so iPhone support is not verified.
Flow Free resets its word count every Sunday at 12 a.m. Pacific time: 2,000 words on desktop and 1,000 on mobile, with the higher maximums described above. Its Notetaker has a weekly limit; the pricing page gives no number, and a help article says the default is 50 recordings a week for non-paying users, with meetings under 5 minutes not counted. Flow Pro has unlimited dictation and higher Notetaker limits with longer history, but no published meeting cap. Wispr lists unlimited Notetaker as a Growth add-on. New accounts get a 14-day Pro trial by default, or 30 days through a referral.
Privacy, data and ads
Under Settings, Data and Privacy, the switch "Improve the model for everyone" is on by default and saves at once when you change it. On Pro, team members decide individually. Feedback you submit can still be used for training. In older versions the switch was labeled "Privacy Mode" and had the opposite meaning, so read the label carefully.
You can request one archive of your data from the Mac or Windows app, available to download for 30 days. On iPhone and Android you ask support for a copy, and organization-managed accounts can have self-serve export turned off. Whether the apps show ads is not verified: the privacy policy says "Currently, we do not allow unaffiliated parties to serve tailored marketing through our Services", but you may still receive Wispr's own advertising content.

Test results
We have not tested Wispr Flow yet, so this page makes no claim about answer quality, and we show no example outputs. Run the same kit in it and in the alternatives, in your own account:
- Summarize a report with traceable facts
- Analyze a spreadsheet and get the numbers right
- Edit an email without losing a detail
- Diagnose and repair a small program
- Research a question with sources that support the answer
- Make sense of documents that disagree
- Research a current question within a date window
- Edit an article without changing its facts
- Turn project notes into a report that agrees with itself
- Implement a small specification
- Refactor code without changing what it does
- Make a picture that follows a detailed brief
- Put exact text into a graphic
- Change one thing in a picture and nothing else
- Make a short clip that follows a brief
- Make a song that sings your lyrics exactly
- Read a script with names, numbers and abbreviations
- Design a logo with an exact name
Getting started
- Install Flow on Mac or Windows and start on Flow Free. New accounts begin with a 14-day Pro trial by default.
- Open Settings, then Data and Privacy, and turn off "Improve the model for everyone" before you dictate anything confidential.
- Dictate your normal writing for a week and watch the count: Free allows 2,000 words on desktop and 1,000 on mobile, reset Sunday at 12 a.m. Pacific time.
- If you need to transcribe recordings you already have, Flow cannot do it; see Superwhisper or Otter.
- Choose billing: $15 a month, or $144 a year paid up front. Wispr's help center says the checkout price is final with no sales tax added, while its terms say it will charge tax when required. Eligible students can get a free annual Student plan or pay $7.50 a month or $72 a year.
