Quick verdict
Superwhisper divides its plans by where your speech is processed. Superwhisper Free gives unlimited dictation with local Whisper models that run on your device, work offline and keep everything there, plus custom vocabulary, text replacements and up to two modes without AI processing. New users first get 3,000 words of Pro features. Superwhisper Pro lists cloud models (S1-Voice, Nova and Scribe), which need an internet connection, local models (Cohere Transcribe and Parakeet), AI modes that rewrite what you say, file transcription and meeting recording with system audio. Pro is $8.49 a month, $84.99 a year paid up front, or a one-time Lifetime license at $249.99. Superwhisper does not say whether tax is included. One license covers all your devices, and there is a 30-day refund on all plans.
On training, Superwhisper's terms are direct: your data is not used to train, fine-tune or improve AI models, and cloud providers are used under zero-data-retention terms. The principal gap is ownership. The Terms of Service (June 2026) do not address who owns your transcripts or whether you may use them commercially; they say only that intellectual property in the app belongs to SuperUltra, the company behind it. Commercial use is therefore not verified on either plan. The privacy policy is also older, dated June 19, 2024, and describes local-only processing, before the cloud models.
Superwhisper's pages also disagree on whether Free records meetings. This verdict rests on what Superwhisper documents, not on our tests, which we have not run.
Strengths and limits
Strengths
- Unlimited dictation on your device, freeFree has no word or minute cap. It dictates into any app with local Whisper models that work offline, and Superwhisper says nothing leaves the device. It supports more than 100 languages, custom vocabulary and text replacements.
- No training on your dataSuperwhisper's terms state that your data is not used to train, fine-tune or improve AI models, with no setting to change. Cloud models run under zero-data-retention API terms, and local models keep everything on the device.
- A one-time Lifetime licenseBesides $8.49 a month or $84.99 a year, Superwhisper also sells a one-time Lifetime license for $249.99, paid once. One license covers all your devices, and all plans carry a 30-day refund.
- File transcription on ProPro transcribes existing audio and video files such as MP3, MP4, MOV and WAV, from the menu bar, Finder's Open With, Windows File Explorer or the macOS command line tool. No file size limit is published.
- Voice for coding agents on macOSSuperwhisper documents plugins for Claude Code, OpenCode, Codex, Cursor, Pi, Grok and DeepSeek on macOS, for voice answers and approvals. Pro also lets you bring your own API keys for other model providers.
Limits
- Ownership of transcripts not addressedNot verified: the Terms of Service (June 2026) do not say who owns your transcripts or whether you may use them commercially, and no other official page states it. If that matters for your work, ask Superwhisper before you rely on it.
- Meeting recording on Free unclearConflict: the homepage lists "Meeting recording and transcription" under Free, but the docs plans table marks system audio recording, speaker separation and AI-powered modes, which Meeting mode summaries need, as Pro only.
- Files and AI modes need ProPlan limit: on Free, Transcribe File shows a lock icon, and modes run without AI processing. Cloud models, AI modes such as Super, Mail and Message, and context awareness are Pro features.
- Fair-use limits not publishedPlan limit: Pro has no published usage cap, but Superwhisper's backend services carry fair-use rate limits it does not quantify. Prices in the App Store and Google Play are higher than on superwhisper.com.
- Gaps in platforms and connectorsSuperwhisper documents no iPad and no Android tablet support, and lists Linux as coming soon. Coding-agent plugins are macOS only, whether Free includes them is not verified, and no calendar or meeting-app connectors are documented.

What it documents for each use
- Business & Productivity Connect AI to the apps I already use · Get notes from my meetings
- Audio & Voice Transcribe recordings and files · Dictate text into any app
A use is listed when at least one plan documents every feature a task needs. Answer quality is a separate question: see below.
Using it day to day
Superwhisper runs on macOS, Windows 10 and 11 (x64 and ARM64), iPhone as a keyboard and Android phones as a floating bubble. It does not support iPad or Android tablets, and Linux is listed as coming soon. macOS also has a command line tool. One license covers all your devices.
Free dictates without a cap using local Whisper models, with up to two modes that do no AI processing. The homepage also lists "Custom prompt control" for Free, which the docs do not, so that is not verified. Pro lists cloud models (S1-Voice, Nova, Scribe) and local models (Cohere Transcribe, Parakeet, Whisper), AI modes (Super, Mail, Message), context awareness, realtime transcription, voice commands on selected text in Super mode and translation to English. Meeting mode on Pro records calls, including system audio, on your device with no bot joining, and turns the transcript into minutes with attendees, decisions and action items. Speaker labels appear in History only. Local models work offline; cloud models need an internet connection.
Privacy, data and ads
Superwhisper's terms say your data is not used to train, fine-tune or improve AI models, on any plan and with no setting needed. Cloud models are used under zero-data-retention API terms, and local models keep everything on your device. The privacy policy is dated June 19, 2024 and describes local-only processing, so for the cloud models rely on the newer terms (June 2026) and docs.
Transcripts, audio, modes and vocabulary are stored locally, in ~/superwhisper on macOS and in %LOCALAPPDATA% on Windows, so you can export by copying that folder, and History can copy a transcript to the clipboard. Whether the app shows ads is not verified: no official Superwhisper page states it.

Getting started
- Install Superwhisper on macOS, Windows, iPhone or Android and start on Free. Your first 3,000 words include Pro features, so note which ones you use.
- After that, dictate with a local Whisper model, which runs offline on your device, and check whether it handles your vocabulary; add custom words if it does not.
- If you need file transcription, AI modes or cloud models, try Pro and use the 30-day refund window to decide.
- If you will use transcripts in paid work, note that the terms do not address ownership, and ask Superwhisper first.
- Choose billing on superwhisper.com, where prices are lower than in the app stores: $8.49 a month, $84.99 a year paid up front, or $249.99 once for Lifetime. Verified students, educators and non-profits get 40% off if they ask before buying.
