Suno: plans, prices, strengths and limits

Suno makes full songs with vocals from a text prompt or your own lyrics. Who owns those songs, and how many you can download, depends on the plan.

Quick verdict

Suno makes complete songs, with vocals or instrumental, on the web, in iOS and Android apps and through Discord. Free gives 50 credits a day, about 10 songs, on the v6-mini model. Suno Pro is $10 a month, or $96 a year paid up front ($8 a month), and adds the v6 and v6-wild models, 2,500 credits a month (up to 500 songs), stem splitting and Voices, which sings new songs in a recording of your own voice. Suno Premier is $30 a month, or $288 a year paid up front ($24 a month), with 10,000 credits a month (up to 2,000 songs) and Suno Studio. Prices are before tax.

Ownership decides the plan. On Free, Suno owns the songs you generate and you may use them only for personal, non-commercial purposes; subscribing later does not license them retroactively. On Pro and Premier, Suno assigns you its rights in songs made while you subscribe, but commercial use covers only songs you download through Suno within your allowance: 20 downloads a month on Pro and 60 on Premier, with more for sale. Those rights stay after you cancel. Remixes of other people's songs stay non-commercial on every plan.

The main limitation outside ownership is training: Suno's privacy notice says your submissions and other content are used to train its models, and we found no opt-out setting. This verdict rests on what Suno documents, not on our tests, which we have not run yet.

Strengths and limits

Strengths

  • Songs with vocals on every planFree makes full songs from a prompt or your lyrics on v6-mini, about 10 a day, up to 4 at once. Pro and Premier add v6, v6-wild and Custom Models trained on at least 6 of your own songs, up to 8 minutes per generation and up to 10 songs at once in a priority queue.
  • Commercial rights that outlast the subscriptionOn Pro and Premier, Suno's terms assign you "all of its right, title and interest" in songs it owns that you made while subscribed. Commercial use covers songs you download within your allowance, and the rights stay after you cancel.
  • Stems on paid plansPro offers Auto Split (up to 12 stems, 50 credits) and Split from Mix (one instrument or vocal plus the rest, 10 credits per stem). Premier adds Advanced Split, with a choice of nearly 100 instruments. Stems count as part of the song's single download.
  • Songs in your own voiceVoices, on Pro and Premier, takes 15 seconds to 4 minutes of your own voice, recorded or uploaded, checks it with a spoken verification and then sings new songs in it. It is for your own voice only, 18 and over, and not available in every location.
  • Suno Studio on PremierPremier includes Suno Studio, a browser-based production workspace with MIDI, effects and automation. It exports multitrack stems as WAV and MIDI, and Suno's download help says Studio exports are not limited.

Limits

  • Free songs belong to SunoPlan limit. On Free, Suno retains ownership of the songs you generate and allows only personal, non-commercial use. Subscribing later does not license songs made on Free. You do own lyrics you wrote yourself.
  • Downloads are rationedPlan limit. Free includes up to 7 lifetime trial downloads, MP3 only, for personal use; the pricing card says "No monthly song downloads". Pro has 20 downloads a month and Premier 60, reset on your billing date with no rollover. Commercial use covers only songs downloaded within that allowance.
  • No training opt-out foundNot verified. Suno's privacy notice says content is used "to train and enhance the models that power our Services", and its terms grant Suno a license to use content to improve its models. No page we checked describes a way to opt out.
  • Suno's pages disagree on uploads and coversConflict. The pricing page allows uploads of up to 8 minutes on Free and up to 30 minutes on Pro and Premier, while a May 2025 help article says 60 seconds on Free and 8 minutes on paid plans. The pricing table ticks covers for Free; a September 2024 help article says covers are Pro and Premier only.
  • Gaps in what is documentedNot verified. Suno Sounds (beta) makes sound effects and loops, but no page says which plans include it. Voices help still refers to model v5.5, although all pre-v6 models are retired, and which v6 models support Voices is not stated. Ads in the app are not documented either way.

Who it suits

A good fit if you

  • Making full songs with vocals from a prompt or your own lyrics
  • Releasing songs commercially within Pro's 20 or Premier's 60 monthly downloads
  • Splitting songs into stems for mixing, on Pro or Premier
  • Singing new songs in your own recorded voice (Pro and Premier, 18 and over)
  • Producing in the browser with MIDI and effects in Suno Studio (Premier)

Look elsewhere if you

  • Commercial use of songs made on Free: Suno owns them, and subscribing later does not change that
  • Keeping your uploads out of model training: no opt-out documented
  • Voiceovers or text to speech: not what Suno's plans are for
  • Transcription, meeting notes or dictation: Suno is a music generator

What it documents for each use

  • Audio & Voice Make a song with vocals · Make instrumental or background music · Use a copy of my own voice

A use is listed when at least one plan documents every feature a task needs. Answer quality is a separate question: see below.

Using it day to day

Suno runs on the web at suno.com and in iOS and Android apps, which Suno describes as a limited release, and its terms also cover use through Discord. Suno Studio, the browser-based production workspace, is Premier only. The help center calls the free plan Basic.

Usage is counted in credits. Free gets 50 credits a day, about 10 songs, with no add-on credits. Pro gets 2,500 credits a month and Premier 10,000; a generation of 2 songs costs 10 credits, and annual plans refill monthly. On Pro, after the monthly credits run out, you get up to 50 bonus credits a day, and both paid plans can buy extra credits and downloads. Downloads on paid plans come as MP3, WAV, video and stems. You can upload audio to extend, cover or remix it, though Suno's pages disagree on the length limit, and adding vocals or an instrumental to an upload is paid only.

Privacy, data and ads

Suno's privacy notice says submissions and other content are used to train its models, and its terms grant Suno a license to use your content to improve them. We found no opt-out setting on the pages we checked. You can ask Suno by email for access to your personal data, and on paid plans for a portable copy, under the privacy notice. Whether the app shows ads is not verified; the privacy notice describes advertising cookies used to market Suno. Voices asks for a spoken verification and accepts only your own voice.

Read the vendor's own page: Suno privacy and data controls. We make no legal or compliance claim.

Test results

We have not tested Suno yet, so this page makes no claim about answer quality, and we show no example outputs. Run the same kit in it and in the alternatives, in your own account:

Getting started

  1. Start on Suno Free with a few prompts on v6-mini. Treat what you make there as Suno's: personal, non-commercial use only.
  2. If you may release a song, subscribe before you make it. Songs made on Free are not licensed retroactively when you upgrade.
  3. On Pro or Premier, plan your downloads: 20 or 60 a month, reset on your billing date, with no rollover. Only songs downloaded within that allowance are covered for commercial use.
  4. Do not build a release on a remix of someone else's song: remixes stay non-commercial.
  5. Compare ownership and download terms with other music tools on our tools page, and read how we check vendor claims.

Alternatives

  • Udio Udio Standard is also $10 a month, but downloads are disabled on every plan and Udio and its licensors own all output, so it fits only songs you share by udio.com link. About Udio
  • ElevenLabs ElevenLabs Starter, at $6 a month, includes a commercial license for Eleven Music songs (without streaming distribution on Starter) alongside text to speech, sound effects and dubbing, and documents a training opt-out toggle. About ElevenLabs
  • Gemini Gemini's Lyria 3.5 makes tracks with vocals on every plan, including the no-cost one, and Google's US terms say Google won't claim ownership of content its services generate, though no stem downloads are described. About Gemini

Questions

Who owns the songs I make with Suno?

It depends on the plan you had when you made them. On Free, Suno owns them and you may use them only for personal, non-commercial purposes. On Pro and Premier, Suno assigns you its rights in songs made while you subscribe. Lyrics you wrote are yours on any plan.

Can I use Suno songs commercially?

Only songs made on Pro or Premier, and only those you download through Suno within your allowance: 20 a month on Pro, 60 on Premier, with more for sale. Remixes of other people's songs stay non-commercial.

How many songs can I download from Suno Free?

Up to 7 lifetime trial downloads, as MP3, for personal use. The pricing card says "No monthly song downloads", which refers to the monthly allowance that paid plans get; listening and sharing in the app stay unlimited.

Do I keep my rights if I cancel Suno?

Yes. Suno says the rights in songs made while you subscribed stay after you cancel. Songs made on Free before you subscribed are not licensed retroactively.

How much does Suno cost?

Pro is $10 a month, or $96 a year paid up front. Premier is $30 a month, or $288 a year paid up front. Taxes are calculated at checkout, so these prices are before tax.

Does Suno train on my songs and uploads?

Suno's privacy notice says submissions and other content are used to train its models. We found no opt-out setting on the pages we checked, so whether you can opt out is not verified.
