Udio: plans, prices, strengths and limits
Udio makes songs with vocals or instrumentals from a prompt or your own lyrics. Since late 2025 you cannot download what you make, and Udio and its licensors own it.

Quick verdict
Udio makes songs on the web and in an iPhone app. Free gives 10 credits a day within a 100-credit monthly limit, with at most three 130-second songs a day. Udio Standard is $10 a month, or $96 a year paid up front ($8 a month), with 2,400 credits a month, audio upload, editing, Styles and Voice Control. Udio Pro is $30 a month, or $288 a year paid up front ($24 a month), with 6,000 credits a month and up to 10 songs at once. Prices are before tax.
The deciding fact is that your songs stay inside Udio. Since its partnership with Universal Music Group on October 29, 2025, downloads of audio, video and stems are disabled for all users. Under Udio's transition terms, last revised November 12, 2025, Udio and/or its licensors own all output, commercial use is barred on every plan, and you may not post songs to streaming or user-generated content platforms. You can share udio.com links. Paying buys credits and features, not rights or downloads.
Udio's newest official pages list the v1, v1.5 and v1.5 Allegro models, and we found no official page announcing a newer model or the next-generation licensed platform as of October 15, 2026. This verdict rests on what Udio documents, not on our tests, which we have not run yet.
Strengths and limits
Strengths
- A free plan with no cardFree costs $0 with no credit card required: 10 credits a day within a 100-credit monthly limit, 32-second clips and up to three 130-second songs a day, up to 4 at once. Any creator can also take a one-time 7-day trial of a subset of Standard features.
- Work from audio you own, on paid plansStandard and Pro let you upload your own audio, if you own the rights, to extend, inpaint, remix, use as a Style or open in Sessions, and to upload custom cover art. Upload is not offered on Free or in the iOS app.
- Reuse a voice across songsVoice Control on Standard and Pro reuses a voice from Udio's Voices library or from your own songs made natively in Udio. Songs tied to uploaded audio cannot be used as a voice source.
- No daily cap on paid plansStandard has 2,400 credits a month and Pro 6,000, with no rollover and no daily limit. A pair of 32-second songs costs 2 credits and a pair of 130-second songs 4. Standard runs up to 6 songs at once, Pro up to 10.
- Student pricingStudents get 50% off Standard or Pro for 6 months. The Standard trial is once per creator; Pro has no trial.
Limits
- No downloads on any planDocumented as not offered. Udio's help center says "downloading of audio, video, and stems has been disabled" since the Universal Music Group partnership of October 29, 2025. Songs stay playable in Udio and shareable by udio.com link.
- Udio owns the output, and commercial use is barredDocumented as not offered. Under the transition terms, last revised November 12, 2025, Udio and/or its licensors own all output, and you may not use it for any commercial purpose or post it to streaming or user-generated content platforms. This applies to Free, Standard and Pro alike.
- Trains on your input and outputNot verified for an opt-out. Udio's terms say it may use your input content and any output to train or improve its services, and no page we checked describes a way to opt out.
- No newer model announcedUdio's newest official pages list v1, v1.5 and v1.5 Allegro, and the pricing FAQ still refers to udio130. We found no official page announcing a newer model as of October 15, 2026.
- Narrow apps, and not your own voicePlan and platform limit. There is no Android app (mobile web only) and no public API. The iOS app can extend songs but not upload, remix, inpaint or use Voices. On every plan, Udio says you cannot upload your own voice as a source.

What it documents for each use
- Audio & Voice Make a song with vocals · Make instrumental or background music
A use is listed when at least one plan documents every feature a task needs. Answer quality is a separate question: see below.
Using it day to day
Udio runs on the web at udio.com, including mobile web, and in an official iPhone app with fewer features. There is no Android app and no public API.
Usage is counted in credits. Free has 10 a day within a 100-credit monthly limit, about 1 credit per 30-second track, and at most three 130-second songs a day. Standard has 2,400 credits a month and Pro 6,000, with no rollover; Udio's pricing FAQ still gives 1,200 credits as the Standard example, which conflicts with the plan cards and help center. Instrumental Mode makes tracks without vocals, though Udio notes it is not always reliable. On Free, the help article says you can make Voice and Style mashups in the Playground, while the pricing table ticks Voices only for Standard and Pro. The Standard trial is once per creator, runs at free-tier credit limits, and charges the annual price at the end unless you selected Monthly.
Privacy, data and ads
Udio's terms say it may use your input content and any output to train or improve its services. We found no opt-out on the pages we checked. The privacy policy says Udio may serve advertisements, including interest-based ads from third-party networks, through the service; whether a given plan shows ads is not verified. You can request a portable copy of your personal data under the privacy policy, but your songs cannot be downloaded on any plan. Uploads must be audio you own the rights to.
Read the vendor's own page: Udio privacy and data controls. We make no legal or compliance claim.
Test results
We have not tested Udio yet, so this page makes no claim about answer quality, and we show no example outputs. Run the same kit in it and in the alternatives, in your own account:
- Summarize a report with traceable facts
- Analyze a spreadsheet and get the numbers right
- Edit an email without losing a detail
- Diagnose and repair a small program
- Research a question with sources that support the answer
- Make sense of documents that disagree
- Research a current question within a date window
- Edit an article without changing its facts
- Turn project notes into a report that agrees with itself
- Implement a small specification
- Refactor code without changing what it does
- Make a picture that follows a detailed brief
- Put exact text into a graphic
- Change one thing in a picture and nothing else
- Make a short clip that follows a brief
- Make a song that sings your lyrics exactly
- Read a script with names, numbers and abbreviations
- Design a logo with an exact name
Getting started
- Read what you are agreeing to: on every Udio plan, Udio and/or its licensors own the output, downloads are disabled and commercial use is barred.
- Start on Free with no card. Use the 32-second clips and up to three 130-second songs a day to judge whether you want to keep listening in Udio.
- If you take the Standard trial, pick Monthly first if you do not want to be charged the $96 annual price when it ends.
- If you need to release or download music, compare Suno and ElevenLabs, whose paid plans document commercial use.
- Read how we check vendor claims before you rely on any plan detail.

Alternatives
- Suno Suno Pro costs the same $10 a month but assigns you Suno's rights in songs made while subscribed and allows 20 downloads a month for commercial use, rights that stay after you cancel. About Suno
- ElevenLabs ElevenLabs includes a commercial license for Eleven Music on every paid plan from Starter at $6 a month, with streaming distribution permitted from Creator at $22 a month. About ElevenLabs
- Gemini Gemini's Lyria 3.5 makes tracks with vocals on every plan, including the no-cost one, with MP3 or MP4 downloads, and Google's US terms say Google won't claim ownership of content its services generate. About Gemini
