Replit: plans, prices, strengths and limits

Replit is an app builder with a browser-based project editor, where Replit Agent builds web and mobile apps from a prompt, then hosts them with a database and user sign-in. The free Starter plan is a trial: its one published app goes down after 30 days.

Quick verdict

Replit Agent builds web and mobile apps from a prompt and publishes them to a replit.app address. Starter is free, with daily Agent credits up to a monthly cap and monthly cloud credits, but only Lite build, for quick edits and targeted changes, and one published app that automatically goes down after 30 days (you can republish it). Core is $20 a month, or $18 a month billed annually, $216 a year paid up front by our calculation. It includes $20 of monthly credits for Agent, publishing and databases, a Free Mode allowance of up to 30 hours of chat, Full build, Plan Mode and unlimited published apps. Pro starts at $100 a month for $100 of credits, or $90 a month billed annually, $1,080 a year paid up front by our calculation, with credits that roll over for two months, 10 parallel agents and up to 15 collaborators. Prices are before tax, and usage beyond your credits is pay-as-you-go.

Commercial use is not verified on any plan. Replit's Terms of Service say "you retain any and all of your rights to any content you submit, post, or display on or through the Service", but say nothing about who owns AI output or whether you may use it commercially. Pro is governed by the Replit Pro Agreement, which puts Output Content under the heading Customer Content Ownership but does not say in words that you own outputs or may use them commercially. The training opt-out is documented for Pro only.

This verdict rests on what Replit documents, not on our tests, which we have not run yet. We have not judged the apps Replit Agent builds.

Strengths and limits

Strengths

  • Database and sign-in built inEvery Replit App gets a built-in PostgreSQL database with 20GB of free storage (50GB on Pro), plus Users and Auth with Clerk by default or Replit Auth. Production database usage is billed from credits, and free builders can use Replit-managed databases and auth. Pro adds database rollback of up to 28 days.
  • Unlimited published apps from CoreCore and Pro publish as many apps as you like, billed by usage from monthly credits before any pay-as-you-go fees. Autoscale has a $2 monthly base fee plus compute units and requests; static hosting is free plus $0.05 per GiB transferred.
  • Your own editor and Git on paid plansCore, Pro and other paid plans can connect over SSH from VS Code, Cursor or another SSH editor. The Git pane connects an app to GitHub, or GitLab and Bitbucket through connectors, to commit and push code.
  • Custom domains with TLSOn Core and Pro you can connect a domain you own or buy one in the Domains tool, and Replit provides TLS. The domain itself is paid to the registrar, and the docs name no plan restriction for this.
  • Images for your appAgent generates icons, backgrounds and illustrations, makes transparent PNGs and removes the background from an existing image. Replit Design's Generate media also makes images up to 4K with Nano Banana models and ChatGPT Images 2.0, billed at the provider's API rate from your credits.

Limits

  • Starter's app goes down after 30 daysPlan limit. Starter publishes one app on a replit.app address that automatically goes down after 30 days and shows a Made with Replit badge. Starter is limited to Lite build; Full build, Plan Mode and other artifact types need Core. Custom domains on Starter are not verified.
  • Commercial use not verifiedUnverified point. The Terms of Service only say you keep your rights in content you submit, and the Pro Agreement files Output Content under Customer Content Ownership without saying you own it or may use it commercially. Read both before you build a product to sell.
  • Training opt-out documented for Pro onlyPrivacy limit. Replit's Model Improvement page says "This control is available to Pro users." It names no opt-out for Starter or Core. On Pro, the opt-out is in Settings, Personalization and applies to new content going forward.
  • Costs grow with usageCost limit. After Core's or Pro's monthly credits run out, Agent work in Power or Max mode, publishing and databases are pay-as-you-go. Agent pricing is effort based, and images are billed at the provider's API rate, so a month's total depends on what you build.
  • Replit's pages disagree on StarterConflict. The Starter plan page says external connectors require Core, while the Connectors page says some connectors are available on the Free plan. GitHub source control is listed as a connector, so pushing code to Git on Starter is not verified.

Based on what Replit, Inc. documents for each plan, not on our tests.

Who it suits

A good fit if you

  • Building web and mobile apps from a prompt with a database and user sign-in included
  • Publishing many apps on usage-based hosting, from Core up
  • Moving between Replit and VS Code or Cursor over SSH on paid plans
  • Teams of up to 15 collaborators running parallel agents on Pro

Look elsewhere if you

  • A free app that stays online: Starter's published app goes down after 30 days
  • Products that need written commercial rights: not verified on any plan
  • Keeping your content out of model training on Starter or Core: the opt-out is documented for Pro
  • Image upscaling or text-in-image work: outside what Replit is for

What it documents for each use

  • Images & Design Create images from a description · Make graphics for posts and slides · Remove a background
  • Coding & Development Code inside my editor · Build an app without writing code · Put an app or site online
  • Business & Productivity Connect AI to the apps I already use

A use is listed when at least one plan documents every feature a task needs. Answer quality is a separate question: see below.

Using it day to day

Replit runs on the web, in a desktop app for Windows, Mac and Linux (Debian-based) and in iOS and Android apps. You can upload documents, spreadsheets, images and screenshots to a chat; the docs name CSVs, PDFs, PowerPoint files and Markdown docs, with no size limits stated on the pages we read. Connectors cover Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Gmail, OneDrive, Outlook, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Linear, Jira and more, plus MCP servers. Most connectors require Core, Pro or Enterprise, and Pro can add custom connectors.

On Core and Pro, Agent also builds slides, data visualizations and animated videos, and Free Mode covers everyday Agent work within an allowance, while Power and Max modes are billed from credits. Core runs 1 background task at a time and up to 5 collaborators; Pro runs 10 parallel tasks and up to 15 collaborators. Replit Design's Generate media lists a Video kind for short clips (Veo 3.1 and Seedance 2.0) and a Vector Graphic kind with SVG output, but the docs show both behind a feature gate without naming plans, so neither is verified on any plan. Editing an uploaded photo is not verified either. Code leaves Replit through Git or by copying files over SSH; no zip download is documented on the pages we read.

Privacy, data and ads

Replit documents a training opt-out for Pro only: Pro users can turn off Model Improvement in Settings, Personalization, and it applies to new content going forward. Enterprise content is not used for training. The Model Improvement page names no opt-out for Starter or Core. Whether Replit shows ads in the product is not verified; its privacy policy says data may be used for advertising on third-party platforms. On Core and Pro you can push code and files to a Git remote or copy them out over SSH, but we found no account-wide export tool, and data export on Starter is not verified.

Read the vendor's own page: Replit privacy and data controls. We make no legal or compliance claim.

Test results

We have not tested Replit yet, so this page makes no claim about answer quality, and we show no example outputs. Run the same kit in it and in the alternatives, in your own account:

Getting started

  1. Start on Starter to try Replit Agent in Lite build. Its one published app goes down after 30 days, so treat it as a test.
  2. Before you upload anything confidential, note that the training opt-out is documented for Pro only.
  3. If you need Full build, Plan Mode or apps that stay online, choose Core: $20 a month, or $216 a year paid up front by our calculation, before tax.
  4. Connect a Git remote early on a paid plan so your code also lives in GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket.
  5. Compare Replit with Lovable and v0 on our tools page, and read how we check vendor claims.

Alternatives

  • Lovable Lovable's Terms say you own the projects you build and the AI output, with no plan restriction stated, and Free and Pro users can opt out of model training in Account settings. About Lovable
  • v0 v0 Plus, at $30 per user a month before tax, includes $30 of monthly credits and GitHub sync that commits every change to a working branch, with hosting on Vercel under your own Vercel plan. About v0
  • Claude Claude Code, included in Claude's paid plans, builds full apps in your own codebase, so the code stays in your project from the start. About Claude

Questions

How much does Replit cost?

Starter is free. Core is $20 a month, or $18 a month billed annually, $216 a year paid up front by our calculation. Pro starts at $100 a month, or $90 a month billed annually, $1,080 a year by our calculation, and higher credit tiers cost more. Replit says prices are subject to tax depending on your location.

Does my free Replit app stay online?

No. Starter's one published app automatically goes down after 30 days. You can republish it, and it shows a Made with Replit badge. Core and Pro publish unlimited apps.

Can I use apps built with Replit commercially?

Not verified. Replit's Terms of Service say you keep your rights in content you submit, but say nothing about AI output ownership or commercial use. The Pro Agreement files Output Content under Customer Content Ownership without stating ownership or commercial use in words.

Can I stop Replit from training on my code?

On Pro, yes: turn off Model Improvement in Settings, Personalization; it applies to new content going forward. Replit's page says "This control is available to Pro users" and names no opt-out for Starter or Core.

Can I work on Replit projects in VS Code or Cursor?

On Core, Pro and other paid plans, yes, over SSH. On Starter you work in Replit's own Project Editor in the browser or the desktop app.

Does Replit include a database?

Yes. Every Replit App gets a PostgreSQL database with 20GB of free storage, or 50GB on Pro, plus Users and Auth. Production database usage is billed from your credits.
