You need sources for everything
Perplexity Pro documents citations in every answer. Google does not describe source links for Gemini on the pages we checked. Run our source kit in both to see which citations actually hold up.

Comparing Google AI Pro and Perplexity Pro: individual plans, prices for United States. Change the plans below to compare any other two.
The verdict is being reviewed because facts about these plans changed. The comparison below already shows the current facts.
Gemini and Perplexity both promise answers grounded in the web, but they come from different places. Google AI Pro is the plan behind the paid version of Gemini, and it also brings Gemini into Gmail, Docs and Sheets and includes 5 TB of Google storage. Perplexity Pro is a search and research product: every answer comes with citations, and you can choose among AI models from several companies. This page is for people deciding which one to pay for. We also cover the free tiers and the higher plans, Google AI Ultra and Perplexity Max.
Everything here is what Google and Perplexity document on their own pricing and help pages for individual plans in the United States, checked on October 12, 2026. Each row in the comparison below links to its source and shows when it was verified. Where a company does not say something, we say it is not documented. That is not the same as saying the feature is missing.

Perplexity says you can 'generate and edit images', but the documented edits are Regenerate or a follow-up prompt on a generated image; uploads are described for analysis only. Editing a photo you upload is not documented.
Google says you can tell Gemini to 'change the background, replace an object, or add an element'; no page documents removing a background to transparency.
No Perplexity page documents background removal.
Nano Banana 2 lists 'Better text rendering: Add text to images with more accurate spelling'; Nano Banana Pro (paid plans) is pitched for images with text rendering.
No Perplexity page documents rendering specified text inside generated images. Image models offered include GPT Image 1, Nano Banana and Seedream 4.5.
No logo maker, logo templates or logo mode documented; Google's Nano Banana page says you can create logos, invites and posters with clear text. No dedicated logo tool or template set is documented.
No Perplexity page documents a logo maker, logo templates or a logo mode.
No Google page documents SVG or vector output for Gemini images; downloads are full-size images (2K with a Google AI plan, 1K without).
No Perplexity page documents SVG or vector export.
The Google AI plans comparison shows no 4K image upscaling (Google Flow) for this plan; it is ticked only for Ultra 5x and Ultra 20x.
No Perplexity page documents image upscaling.
Gemini app (Gemini Omni): turn up to 5 photos into a video. Also Google Flow Frames to Video (1,000 Flow credits/month plus 50 daily) and Google Photos Photo to video (Expanded generations).

Not documented for your own footage. Perplexity says editing or iterating on videos it generated is not supported.
Google Vids AI avatars speak the words in your script (25/month, includes personal avatars). Gemini app and Flow also let you record your own face and voice as an avatar for Omni videos (not in EEA, UK, Switzerland; English only in Gemini).
No Perplexity page documents a digital presenter.
No Google page documents lip sync to new audio for these plans. Google says of Gemini Omni: editing video to change audio and speech is still being tested.
No Perplexity page documents lip sync.
Not stated as automatic: Google Vids has styled captions that sync with the audio, open to personal accounts; no page says they are generated without your input. Google Vids styled captions, synced to the audio, available to all personal Google accounts (also transcript trim and teleprompter); you can correct caption errors.
No Perplexity page documents automatic video captions.
No Google page ties automatic long video to short clips to the Gemini app, Flow, Vids or Photos on this plan.
No Perplexity page documents turning long videos into short clips.
Visible watermark can be turned off: Gemini app (Settings, Media, Watermark) and Google Flow have a visible watermark toggle in the US. Invisible SynthID watermark and C2PA Content Credentials always remain.
No Perplexity page says whether its Veo 3.1 videos carry a visible or invisible watermark.
Canvas in the Gemini app creates apps and web pages from a prompt, with code view and Gemini-powered features. Google AI Studio Build (vibe coding agent, 'Expanded' daily usage on this plan) builds full-stack web and Android apps from a prompt.
Create files and apps builds web apps and dashboards from a prompt, and Computer builds websites and web apps. Pro: 'Limited amount Create files and apps queries every 30 days'; Computer has no monthly credits on consumer Pro (one-time 4,000 bonus, buy more).
Canvas apps can be shared with a public g.co/gemini/share link (opens in gemini.google.com). AI Studio deploys apps to Cloud Run with a public URL; needs a Cloud billing account except the Starter Tier (eligible accounts, up to 2 apps).
Computer-built websites publish to a Perplexity-hosted pplx.app URL (private, specific people or public; consumer sites are public by default), on web. 'Publish with Vercel' deploys to your Vercel account.
No Google page documents putting a Canvas or AI Studio app on your own domain. AI Studio lets you pick a custom subdomain under ai.studio (for example your-app-name.ai.studio).
Through 'Publish with Vercel' (Vercel connector, your own Vercel account) you can serve a Computer-built site on your own domain; pplx.app addresses are customizable but stay on pplx.app.
Canvas apps can save data across sessions and devices (anyone with a public link can view and edit that data). AI Studio Build provisions Firebase Firestore and Firebase Authentication (Sign in with Google).
No Perplexity page documents a database or user sign-in for websites and apps Computer builds.
Canvas has a Code view where you can read and edit an app's code, and exports Python to Colab. Google AI Studio Build exports code as a ZIP or syncs two ways with GitHub.
Apps made with Create files and apps can be downloaded as HTML; Computer can also deploy a site to your Vercel account through the Vercel connector.
Lyria 3.5 in the Gemini app makes tracks with music and lyrics (vocals) from text, photos or video; short (about 1 min) or full (2 to 3 min, needs the Pro model); 18+. Ticked on every plan; higher plans get higher limits. Google Vids 'Generate music' is also included.
No official Perplexity page describes generating songs or audio.
When creating a track you can choose whether it has vocals or not, so instrumental tracks are possible; same usage limits as music generation.
No official Perplexity page describes generating instrumental music.
Help article lists downloads as MP4 video with cover art or audio-only MP3; separated stems are not described.
No official Perplexity page describes stem downloads.
Google Vids 'AI voiceover' and Google Docs 'Audio generation' are both listed for this plan.
No official Perplexity page found that describes turning your text into a voiceover; the plans article does not mention voice or audio.
Not documented: Google's personal avatar feature records your face and voice for videos, but no page says it reads new text in a copy of your voice.
No official Perplexity page describes copying a voice.
Not documented for recorded audio or video: Google Meet translates speech live in calls on some plans, which is not dubbing a file.
No official Perplexity page describes translating and re-voicing audio or video.
No official page describes generating stand-alone sound effects from a description in the Gemini app or Google Flow.
No official Perplexity page describes generating sound effects.
Audio files can be uploaded to Gemini for answers and summaries (total audio up to 10 minutes; 3 hours with Google AI Pro or Ultra), but no official page names transcription as a feature.
Audio and video files (for example MP3, WAV, MP4) can be uploaded; spoken content is transcribed automatically with speaker labels and made searchable. 50 MB per file; long files are partly extracted. Pro has weekly upload limits (average use).
Gemini 'Take notes for me' in Google Meet captures notes in Google Docs, gives 'Summary so far' and a recap email; recommended for 15 minutes to 8 hours; 8 spoken languages.
No official Perplexity page describes joining or recording meetings.
No official Gemini page describes system-wide dictation into other apps; help center search found only voice input inside Gemini.
No official Perplexity page found that describes system-wide dictation into other apps.
Gemini Notebook (research/writing assistant, notebooks).
Projects (up to 50 file uploads per project).

400+ app connectors (list not enumerated on page).
All Gemini in Gmail features in Google's compare table, incl. Help me write, Proofread, AI Overviews (threads and Gmail search, search US only), AI Inbox, Help me schedule. US Pro/Ultra users may no longer see the Gmail side panel; in-line AI replaces it.
No official page describes a Perplexity add-on or side panel inside Gmail. Perplexity offers a Gmail and Google Calendar connector (read from Perplexity's own app), Computer in Email (you email computer@perplexity.com) and the Comet browser assistant; none runs inside Gmail itself.
Gemini in Docs: Help me write, Write and edit, Summarize a document, Create personalized documents, Generate an image, Audio generation. Docs Live (voice) rolling out on Android and iOS in US only. Select languages, 18+.
No official page describes a Perplexity add-on inside Google Docs. Perplexity only offers a Google Drive connector (search Drive files from Perplexity's own app) and export to Google Drive; that is a connector, not working inside Docs.
Gemini in Sheets: AI function, Enhanced Smart Fill, Generate insights and analyze data. Works best with native Sheets files; Excel (.xlsx) files must be saved as Google Sheets first.
No official page describes a Perplexity add-on inside Google Sheets. Perplexity only offers a Google Drive connector (search Drive files from Perplexity's own app) and export to Google Drive; that is a connector, not working inside Sheets.
No official Google page found that documents a Gemini add-in for Microsoft Word on any personal Google AI plan. Only third-party add-ins turned up. Gemini app can export files, which is not working inside Word.
Perplexity Computer runs in a side panel inside Word after installing the add-in from Microsoft Marketplace. Pro, Max, Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max all include it. Launched May 28, 2026.
No official Google page found that documents a Gemini add-in for Microsoft Excel on any personal Google AI plan. Only third-party add-ins turned up. Gemini app can export files, which is not working inside Excel.

No official statement found about ads in the Gemini app.
No current official statement found (ad experiment announced 2024).
Not stated as a permission: Google's Terms say Google won't claim ownership of generated content and set no plan-specific ban; no page grants commercial use in so many words.
Consumer Terms of Service (Free, Pro and Max) allow personal, non-commercial use only and bar exploiting the Services for any commercial purpose without written permission; the terms do not say who owns Output.

No cloud-storage bundle.
Web, Android, iOS, desktop app for Windows 10+ and macOS 15+ (Apple Silicon).
Web; desktop app for Windows 10 (1809+) and macOS 15+; mobile app subscriptions referenced.
Google AI Pro is $19.99 a month, or $199.99 a year, about $16.67 a month, paid up front. Perplexity Pro's $20 monthly price comes from Perplexity's own announcement, and its pricing page shows $17 a month when billed yearly, about $204 a year; Perplexity does not print the yearly total, so we derived it. A yearly plan is not cancel-any-time and saves money only if you keep it for the full year.
Google AI Pro is also a storage plan with 5 TB, and Google lists YouTube Premium Lite among the US extras. Perplexity runs limited-time credit offers, which we list but never count as part of the price. For heavy use, Google AI Ultra is $99.99 or $199.99 a month; Perplexity Max shows $167 a month when billed yearly, on the web only, and we could not confirm a monthly price for it. Neither company says whether US sales tax is included, so every total on this site is before tax.
Perplexity documents citations in every answer and a Research mode with monthly limits. Google documents expanded Deep Research on AI Pro, but the plan pages we checked do not describe Gemini's answers coming with source links, so we mark that row as not verified, not as missing. If research is your main job, run our source kit in both and check whether each citation supports its claim.
AI Pro puts Gemini inside Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Vids, and adds Meet notes. Perplexity is not a Google Workspace product; it lists more than 400 app connectors without naming them on the pricing page. If you want help inside the Google apps you already use, Gemini is the documented choice.
Google documents uploads of up to 1,500 pages and a 1 million token context on AI Pro. Perplexity Pro accepts PDFs, CSVs, audio, video and images, up to 50 files per project, and does not state a context window. Neither company's plan pages that we checked say the assistant computes over spreadsheet data, so data analysis is not verified for either. Our spreadsheet kit shows whether the numbers come out right.
Both generate images. For video, Google AI Pro includes 1,000 Flow credits a month and a limited Veo trial, while Perplexity Pro documents limited video generation.
Google AI Pro includes the Jules coding agent with higher limits, plus Antigravity, AI Studio and Android Studio. Perplexity lists no dedicated coding agent. For agents that use a browser, Google documents Chrome auto browse on AI Pro in the US and India; Perplexity documents Comet Assistant with monthly limits and expanded access to Perplexity Computer.
Gemini offers Gems, Google's custom assistants, Gemini Notebook for research and writing, and Gemini Live for voice. Perplexity documents Projects and memory on Pro; its voice mode and custom Spaces are not confirmed for consumer plans on the pages we checked.
Both use your data to improve their AI by default. In Gemini, turn off Keep Activity; Google says chats are still kept for up to 72 hours. In Perplexity, turn off "AI data retention" in Preferences. Turning training off says nothing about other storage, so read each privacy page if your work is confidential.
We found no official statement about ads in the Gemini app. Perplexity announced an ad experiment in 2024, and we found no current statement. Both ads rows stay not verified.
Gemini's free tier includes Gemini Live, image generation, a deep research mode that Google says may be unavailable when demand is high, and 15 GB of Google storage. Perplexity Free gives citations in every answer, three Pro searches a day and one Research query a month, with basic models. If you look things up a few times a day, try Perplexity Free; if you want an assistant inside your Google account, start with Gemini's free tier.
You can export your Gemini data through Google Takeout. Perplexity documents no self-service export on the pages we checked. Neither company documents importing the other's history, so moving means starting fresh.
This comparison was written by the What the tech desk with AI assistance, from the facts in our data release. We have not yet run our test kits on these two plans, so nothing here is a claim about quality. When we run them, the results will appear with their dates, and the change will show in the change log.
Perplexity Pro documents citations in every answer. Google does not describe source links for Gemini on the pages we checked. Run our source kit in both to see which citations actually hold up.
Google AI Pro. It puts Gemini inside those apps and adds Meet notes. Perplexity is not part of Google Workspace.
Google documents uploads of up to 1,500 pages and a 1 million token context on AI Pro. Perplexity states no context window. Try one of your own long documents in both.
Google AI Pro includes 1,000 Flow credits a month and a limited Veo trial; Perplexity Pro documents limited video generation. If video matters, Gemini documents more of it.
Google AI Pro includes Jules, Antigravity and AI Studio. Perplexity lists no dedicated coding agent. Run our code kit with Gemini before you rely on it.
We have not run these tests for you unless a result above says so. Each kit gives you the same files, the same prompt and the same checks for both tools.
Perplexity's help centre lists models from several companies, including Google, that Pro users can choose. That gives you the model inside Perplexity, not Google AI Pro's Gemini in Gmail and Docs, storage or allowances.
Yes, both. Google AI Pro is $199.99 a year. Perplexity's pricing page shows $17 a month billed yearly, about $204 a year by our calculation. Both are paid up front.
We found no official statement about ads in the Gemini app. Perplexity announced an ad experiment in 2024, and we found no current statement.
Both do by default. Turn off Keep Activity in Gemini, where Google still keeps chats for up to 72 hours, or "AI data retention" in Perplexity's Preferences.
Neither company's documentation answers that, and we have not run our tests on these plans yet. Our source kit gives both the same material and the same checks.
Every fact links to its source and shows when it was verified. Read how AI Compare works and the change log.
