AI Compare
Prices for United States, before sales tax Data release 2026.10.16-3, Oct 16, 2026 Rules 2.1.0
Comparing Claude Pro and Perplexity Pro: individual plans, prices for United States. Change the plans below to compare any other two.
Claude and Perplexity are often compared, but they are different kinds of product. Claude Pro is Anthropic's assistant for writing, analysis and coding. Perplexity Pro is a search and research product: every answer comes with citations, and you can choose among AI models from several companies. This page is for people deciding which one to pay for, or whether they need both. We also cover the free tiers and the higher plans, Claude Max and Perplexity Max.
Everything here is what Anthropic and Perplexity document on their own pricing and help pages for individual plans in the United States, checked on October 12, 2026. Each row in the comparison below links to its source and shows when it was verified. Where a company does not say something, we say it is not documented. That is not the same as saying the feature is missing.

Claude Code is an agent (chat panel, inline diffs) in VS Code/JetBrains; no page documents inline as-you-type code completions. The Desktop app docs explicitly say it has no autocomplete; the IDE extension docs are silent.
No official Perplexity page documents inline code completion.
Claude Code on the web: cloud sessions run on Anthropic-managed VMs, keep running after you close your laptop, clone GitHub repos and create PRs; auto-fix PRs. Counts toward Pro usage limits; no separate VM charge.
Computer runs tasks in a cloud sandbox, writes code and connects to GitHub (connector can act on PRs, e.g. add labels), but no official page says it works on a repository and opens pull requests.
Via Claude Code GitHub Actions authenticated with a Pro subscription token: review workflow posts inline PR comments automatically. Managed Code Review (research preview) is Team/Enterprise only; local /code-review also works.
No official page documents automated PR review; GitHub connector examples only show PR status queries and labeling.
No photo/illustration generation; can build diagrams/charts/SVG visuals (beta, web/desktop).
Image generation.
Claude Motion (beta) marked No on Free, Pro, Max.
Limited video generation.
Voice mode on all plans.

Anthropic says Claude does not generate photos or illustrations; it can view and analyze uploaded images. No page documents editing an uploaded photo.
Perplexity says you can 'generate and edit images', but the documented edits are Regenerate or a follow-up prompt on a generated image; uploads are described for analysis only. Editing a photo you upload is not documented.
No Anthropic page documents background removal. Claude does not generate photos or illustrations.
No Perplexity page documents background removal.

No Perplexity page documents SVG or vector export.
No Anthropic page documents image upscaling for Claude.
No Perplexity page documents image upscaling.
Claude Motion (short animations built as code from your text, charts and images, exported as MP4) is marked No on Free, Pro and Max; it is a Team and Enterprise beta and uses no video generation model.
Attach one image; it becomes the first frame of an up to 8 s Veo 3.1 video (web, iOS, Android). Pro: smaller monthly video credit allowance; rolling 30-day credits, no extra purchase.
No Claude page documents editing uploaded video footage on Free, Pro or Max; Claude Motion edits only its own code-built animations and is not on these plans.
Not documented for your own footage. Perplexity says editing or iterating on videos it generated is not supported.
No Claude page documents a digital presenter. Claude Motion (not on this plan) 'doesn't create realistic footage or people'.

No Perplexity page documents automatic video captions.
No Claude page documents turning long videos into short clips on any plan.
No Perplexity page documents turning long videos into short clips.
Claude makes no video on this plan (Claude Motion is marked No on Free, Pro and Max), so a video watermark does not apply.
No Perplexity page says whether its Veo 3.1 videos carry a visible or invisible watermark.
Artifacts (all plans) turn a description into single-page websites, small interactive tools and apps that can call Claude; Claude Design makes prototypes and landing pages. Claude Code (included in paid plans) builds full apps in your codebase.
Create files and apps builds web apps and dashboards from a prompt, and Computer builds websites and web apps. Pro: 'Limited amount Create files and apps queries every 30 days'; Computer has no monthly credits on consumer Pro (one-time 4,000 bonus, buy more).
Artifacts start private; Pro and Max can share with 'Anyone with the link' (viewers sign in to Claude; not for artifacts that use Claude or connectors). Claude Code artifacts publish to a claude.ai URL that can be public with no sign-in; one self-contained page, no backend.
Computer-built websites publish to a Perplexity-hosted pplx.app URL (private, specific people or public; consumer sites are public by default), on web. 'Publish with Vercel' deploys to your Vercel account.
No Anthropic page documents serving an artifact on your own domain. Legacy published artifacts offer embed code with an Allowed domains list, which is embedding, not a custom domain.
Through 'Publish with Vercel' (Vercel connector, your own Vercel account) you can serve a Computer-built site on your own domain; pplx.app addresses are customizable but stay on pplx.app.
Artifacts can store data between sessions: personal or shared storage, 20 MB per artifact, text only. Visitors of AI-powered artifacts sign in with their own Claude account. No other database or auth service is documented.
No Perplexity page documents a database or user sign-in for websites and apps Computer builds.
Claude Design exports a .zip, standalone HTML, or hands off to Claude Code or tools such as Lovable, Replit, v0 and Vercel; Claude Code (included in paid plans) writes code in your own project, and published artifact pages come from a local file.
Apps made with Create files and apps can be downloaded as HTML; Computer can also deploy a site to your Vercel account through the Vercel connector.

400+ app connectors (list not enumerated on page).
No Claude add-on that works inside Gmail is documented. Claude in Chrome (a browser agent) can act on Gmail pages, and the Gmail connector works from Claude's own chat; neither is an integration inside Gmail.
No official page describes a Perplexity add-on or side panel inside Gmail. Perplexity offers a Gmail and Google Calendar connector (read from Perplexity's own app), Computer in Email (you email computer@perplexity.com) and the Comet browser assistant; none runs inside Gmail itself.
Claude for Google Workspace add-on: Claude sidebar in Google Docs (Extensions > Claude). Beta; Chrome, Edge, or Safari (not Firefox); Google account must be allowed to install Marketplace apps.
No official page describes a Perplexity add-on inside Google Docs. Perplexity only offers a Google Drive connector (search Drive files from Perplexity's own app) and export to Google Drive; that is a connector, not working inside Docs.
Claude for Google Workspace add-on: Claude sidebar in Google Sheets (Extensions > Claude). Beta; Chrome, Edge, or Safari (not Firefox); Google account must be allowed to install Marketplace apps.
No official page describes a Perplexity add-on inside Google Sheets. Perplexity only offers a Google Drive connector (search Drive files from Perplexity's own app) and export to Google Drive; that is a connector, not working inside Sheets.

Web; desktop app for Windows 10 (1809+) and macOS 15+; mobile app subscriptions referenced.
Claude Pro is $20 a month, or $200 a year on the web, about $17 a month, paid up front. Perplexity Pro is $20 a month according to Perplexity's own announcement, and its pricing page shows $17 a month when billed yearly, which works out at about $204 a year; Perplexity does not print the yearly total, so we derived it. Perplexity also runs limited-time credit offers, which we list but never count as part of the price.
For heavy use, Claude Max is $100 or $200 a month, billed monthly. Perplexity Max shows $167 a month when billed yearly, on the web only; we could not confirm a monthly price for it on an official page. Neither company says whether US sales tax is included, so every total on this site is before tax.
Perplexity is built around search. Its plan pages say every answer includes citations, and Pro adds a Research mode with monthly limits and higher usage limits. Perplexity's help centre lists models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and others that Pro users can choose from. Claude is one company's assistant: it searches the web on every plan, but its documentation centres on writing, analysis, projects and coding.
That difference matters when you compare features. A Claude model chosen inside Perplexity answers with Perplexity's tools and limits; Claude Pro's Projects, code execution and Claude Code are not part of that.
Both document web search. Perplexity documents citations in every answer and a Research mode; Anthropic documents web search on every Claude plan and Research on Pro. Whether each citation supports its claim is exactly what our source kit checks, so run it in both if research is your main job.
Anthropic documents code execution that lets Claude create and edit files and work through spreadsheets, with files of up to 500 MB and up to 20 files in a chat. Perplexity Pro accepts PDFs, CSVs, audio, video and images, up to 50 files per project, and lists creating files and apps such as spreadsheets and dashboards, but its pages do not say that it computes over your data. We mark data analysis as not verified for Perplexity, not as missing.
Anthropic documents a context of up to 1 million tokens on all of its individual plans. Perplexity does not state a context window on the pages we checked.
Perplexity Pro generates images and offers limited video generation. Claude does not generate photos, illustrations or video; it can build diagrams and charts from code, which Anthropic lists as a beta.
Claude Pro includes Claude Code, Anthropic's coding agent, under a session limit that resets every five hours plus a weekly limit. Perplexity lists no dedicated coding agent. For agents, Anthropic documents Claude in Chrome on Pro; Perplexity documents Comet Assistant with monthly limits and expanded access to Perplexity Computer.
Claude connects to services such as Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar, GitHub, Slack and Microsoft 365. Perplexity Pro lists more than 400 app connectors without naming them on the pricing page.
Perplexity uses your data to improve its AI by default; turn off "AI data retention" in Preferences. Anthropic asks you to choose whether your chats help improve Claude when you sign up and lets you change it in Privacy Settings, but does not state the default, so check it. Turning training off says nothing about other storage, so read each privacy page if your work is confidential.
Anthropic says Claude is ad-free on every plan. Perplexity announced an ad experiment in 2024, and we found no current official statement about ads, so that row stays not verified.
Perplexity Free gives citations in every answer, three Pro searches a day and one Research query a month, with basic models. Claude Free includes Sonnet and Haiku, web search, file creation with code execution, voice mode, memory and up to five projects, but not Research or Claude Code. If you search a few times a day, Perplexity Free may be enough; if you mostly write and analyse, start with Claude Free.
You can export your Claude data from the web or desktop app, though not from the phone apps. Perplexity documents no self-service export on the pages we checked. Neither company documents importing the other's history, so moving means starting fresh.
This comparison was written by the What the tech desk with AI assistance, from the facts in our data release. We have not yet run our test kits on these two plans, so nothing here is a claim about quality. When we run them, the results will appear with their dates, and the change will show in the change log.
Perplexity Pro. It documents citations in every answer, a Research mode and higher usage limits than Free. Run our source kit to see whether the citations hold up before you rely on them.
Claude Pro. Anthropic documents code execution for files, up to 1 million tokens of context and Projects. Perplexity's pages do not say it computes over your data, so test a spreadsheet in both.
Claude Pro includes Claude Code. Perplexity lists no dedicated coding agent. Run our code kit with Claude, and compare Claude Max if you hit the five-hour limits.
Perplexity Pro generates images and offers limited video. Claude does not generate photos, illustrations or video.
Start with the free tiers of both for a week on your real tasks. If you keep switching between them, our subscription checker shows what you would lose by dropping either one.
We have not run these tests for you unless a result above says so. Each kit gives you the same files, the same prompt and the same checks for both tools.
Perplexity's help centre lists models from several companies, including Anthropic, that Pro users can choose. That gives you the model inside Perplexity, not Claude Pro's own features such as Projects, code execution or Claude Code.
Perplexity's pricing page shows $17 a month when billed yearly, about $204 a year. Perplexity does not print the yearly total, so that figure is our calculation. Claude Pro is $200 a year.
Perplexity announced an ad experiment in 2024, and we found no current official statement. Anthropic says Claude is ad-free on every plan.
Perplexity does by default; turn off "AI data retention" in Preferences. Claude asks you to choose at sign-up and lets you change it in Privacy Settings; Anthropic does not state the default.
Neither company's documentation answers that, and we have not run our tests on these plans yet. Our source kit and email kit give both the same material and the same checks.
Every fact links to its source and shows when it was verified. Read how AI Compare works and the change log.
